1. PRODUCTS
The short answer: they are a piece of nature.
The long answer: our unique natural surfaces are made from rapidly renewable raw materials and natural residues. They bring nature in: everything from alpine hay to Swiss stone pine is included. Flowers, leaves, hay and much more are applied to various carrier materials using a lot of manual labour and gentle production processes. This preserves the look, feel and fragrance as far as possible and enables a true experience of nature in the interior. Our innovative carrier materials allow a wide range of applications – ALMWIESE is just as suitable for walls as it is for ceilings, glass surfaces or furniture fronts. There are no limits to creativity.
We admit it: we tend to lean more in the direction of eco-freaks. At least as far as the company and our products are concerned.
In our manufactory in the Tyrolean Alps, we attach great importance to ecological and climate-neutral production. This starts with supplying the factory with 100% green electricity and ends with the materials we use. We work with natural, rapidly renewable raw materials or natural waste materials from upcycling projects. We also ensure that transport routes are as short as possible and want our company to offer regional added value.
Depending on the material: Oh yes, and how!
Our natural surfaces bring nature in – not only visually, but also through their feel and fragrance. The raw materials used are processed with such care that the natural fragrance is retained. The ROSENBLÜTEN surface, for example, makes you feel as if you are walking through a rose garden. The BERGWIESE transports you to a summer mountain pasture with its fragrance, while LAVENDEL evokes holiday feelings in Provence. The intensity of the fragrance depends heavily on the temperature, humidity and air exchange rate, as well as personal perception. As with any raw material, the intensity of the fragrance diminishes over time. Raw materials such as skeletonised leaves or cornflower do not have a strong scent of their own, which is why you will not find this on the surface. But they are still nice to look at!
Watch out: enjoyment without the need to wet! With our natural surfaces, the hay meadow can be experienced every day without a handkerchief.
We have tested the natural raw materials that are allergen carriers when fresh (e.g. hay, moss and birch leaves) for their allergenic effect when processed. No allergenic emissions were detected in the end product. You can find the test results in the download area.
“Suitable for grandchildren” doesn’t just apply to our company. We always endeavour to develop durable and sustainable products. Under normal indoor climatic conditions, the lifespan of our products is almost unlimited, comparable to that of conventional chipboard. Natural surfaces, which contain the green plant pigment chlorophyll, are subject to natural ageing processes. The colouring of the natural fibres can change over time.

3. certificates
Quality over quantity. Although we have nature on a roll and can also produce large quantities, we still pay very close attention to the quality of our natural surfaces. In our manufactory in the Tyrolean Alps, there are multi-stage quality controls – from the selection of raw materials through to dispatch.
Similar to other materials made from natural fibres, our natural surfaces also breathe. This means that they swell and shrink slightly with the change in humidity in the room – to varying degrees depending on the source material. This biochemical process can cause individual parts to detach from the surface. This is not a loss of quality, but a sign of the naturalness of the surface. Due to the multi-layered structure, bald patches can be ruled out in the long term.
Natural surfaces from ORGANOID are made from natural plant fibres, which is why individual products of the same type may differ slightly in colour, smell or fibre composition. We do our best to minimise the variation in natural properties by carefully controlling each of our raw materials.
Perhaps you shouldn’t lick the natural surfaces. They may look great, but they don’t taste particularly delicious. Have we tried it ourselves? That remains our secret…
Our natural surfaces are made exclusively from harmless materials and contain no toxic substances. Various binder formulations are used which are suitable in accordance with the German Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR XIV Part A) as defined by EU Regulation 1935/2004. Contact with food is therefore not a problem as long as a temperature of 90 °C is not exceeded.
Igniters beware – we have of course also tested our surfaces for their fire behaviour.
Due to the numerous possible combinations of different fibre and carrier materials, we are unable to make a generally valid statement on the fire behaviour of the products. We classify our products according to product group using standardised reference tests. Our products usually achieve the fire classes according to EN ISO 13501-1 in classic wall construction:
ORGANOID Light products on flax and Ecovlies: B-s1, d0 (flame-retardant)
ORGANOID products on flax fleece: C-s1, d0 (flame retardant)
The laminate panels (HPL) used as a base material are classified as flame-retardant as standard anyway and are also classified as flame-retardant after full-surface coating (e.g. with hay) (class: B-s1, d0 according to EN ISO 13501-1).
The certification reports are available in the download area. Further certifications on the fire behaviour of our products are currently in progress.
4. technical information
We ask back: How do you clean your wallpaper? If your answer is “Hm… not at all”, then you have your answer here.
If you have somewhat higher hygiene requirements, you can easily remove light dirt and dust from the surfaces: simply wipe carefully with a damp, lint-free cloth. Coarse brushes, aggressive cleaning agents and chemicals should be avoided.
If you can’t process the product straight away and enjoy the sight of it, you can of course store it.
All products should be stored in closed, dry rooms at normal temperatures (approx. 20 °C, 45-65 % relative humidity) and protected from light. For sheet goods or single decks, a horizontal position is recommended. Roll goods, on the other hand, should ideally be stored in a hanging storage system to avoid pressure marks on the lying/standing surfaces.
As we primarily work with untreated natural raw materials, stored products can in rare cases become harbourages for insects and rodents. To prevent this, it is particularly important to ensure a storage environment that is protected from light and dust, ideally with circulating ventilation.
Although wrapping in a closed plastic film protects against external influences and preserves the fragrance properties, it also increases the risk of mould growth, which can occur in high humidity, insufficient ventilation and fluctuating temperatures.
Take a look at our processing instructions.
What exactly are you planning to do here? Use it as a gym mat? We’ll have to sit down together again, please…
However, in order to achieve increased moisture or abrasion protection, natural surfaces can usually be varnished, oiled, waxed, impregnated or even used under glass. However, some raw materials contain natural oils or fats that make varnishing difficult or impossible. Simply pay attention to the product-related information that can be found under each product.
Our motto is “Only pure nature, please!”
ORGANOID natural surfaces leave our production facility completely untreated. Without further sealing, they are therefore only suitable for indoor use and should be kept away from moisture or wet areas. At least “for now”. Every day, we are working on innovative ways to further develop our natural surfaces so that they are suitable for a wide variety of areas.
Our surfaces can be sealed with conventional oils and lacquers to fulfil particularly high requirements in terms of abrasion, water and scratch resistance or light fastness. Glass or epoxy resin offer further application options. We have tested one type of sealing for you and explain this in a blog post.
Would you like to shape our surfaces yourself? No problem! The natural surfaces can be cut with scissors, cutters, plotters, lasers, punching machines and cutting devices.
More on the subject of lasers: The processing of natural surfaces was successfully tested with Eurolaser devices and categorised as “very suitable”. Laser cutting made it possible to achieve an even and precise cut. The height of the lens and the suction settings depend on the exact material and speed requirements.
Before production, it is recommended to check the cutting system and test the conditions in order to find the optimum settings for the respective purpose. The conditions must be adjusted accordingly depending on the natural and substrate material.
Due to the 100% natural materials, the use of lasers can lead to material discolouration at the cut edge. When specifying the quantity, take into account the double seam cut of 2 cm and the edge tolerance of +/- 5 mm per side.
We do not cut to size in-house. However, we can work with external partners and look forward to receiving your enquiry.
Put your own stamp on it: ORGANOID natural surfaces can be printed on the front and back. We recommend screen printing and digital printing, both of which have been successfully tested. Due to the 100% natural materials, the legibility and print quality varies. We recommend checking the printing system in conjunction with the natural materials in advance and testing the conditions to find the optimum settings for the respective purpose. Coarse natural fibres can damage the print head and affect the quality of the printed image. Please ensure that you use sustainable ink and avoid inks containing harmful substances.
We do not print in-house. However, we can work with external partners and look forward to receiving your enquiry.
Although the surfaces are a true piece of nature, you should not simply dispose of them in the forest.
Proper disposal depends on the backing material and any additional substances applied, such as glue, adhesive or surface sealant. If you are not sure, please ask your local waste disposal company.
As a rule, however, simple disposal in household waste is possible, as with wood-based materials. ORGANOID products on flax fleece can also be industrially composted (provided there are no coarse paste residues).
